Hi Andy,
I don't think you have weighed in on the topic in the Craftysnapper thread in the "General admin stuff" board yet. I am dismayed by the tone of several of the responses, as we are supposed to the caretakers here, not defenders of one side of a polarized issue. Here is a response that I am thinking of posting there. I wanted to pass it by you for feedback and guidance first, and perhaps hear your take on the issue.
I am saddened that we are casting Paul's behavior as "wrong", as if this were a moral issue, and stubbornly refusing to recognize that there are other legitimate viewpoints here. I fear we are becoming entrenched in our particular positions, rigid and intolerant.
The way I relate to my individual gallery is as the place for me to archive images that I am especially proud of and think worthy of consideration for the IOW. It is not for those pictures that I take occasionally and would like to share, for whatever reason. I'm certainly not going to post them in SYW after what has happened, so there really is no place to share them here.
As I understand Paul's position, he believed he was honoring the spirit of the SYW board expressed in the sticky by enabling allow criticism of his images. I can also certainly relate to his feeling singled out, as he is the only one the other "violators" that were publicly chastised.
If we can not find a comfortable outlet for active and engaged members like Paul, the fault lies with us.
I like the suggestion of renaming the SYW board to "before and after", and the creation of a new board for the casual sharing of images and whatever conversation they invoke from the community.
Bottom line, I say live and let live. We are here to serve the community of members, so let's lighten up.
